What Keto and Low Carb Ingredients can be frozen? Well quite a few actually. Many food prepping or shelf stable ingredients are high in carbs. Which is fabulous for people who don’t have to worry about their blood sugars. Not so much for us.
Hi everybody. ? So I thought it might be a good idea to compile a list of keto and low carb ingredients that can be frozen or kept a while in the freezer or refrigerator for people who need to prepare. We are listing some of the most popular ingredients that many people may not realize can be frozen.
Of course your typical ingredients like beef, chicken, pork etc. can be frozen ahead of time. Any other ingredients like monkfruit and dried products like almond flour of that sort are shelf-stable.
(NOTE: I would recommend refrigerating the almond flour after it’s been opened though as it will last longer there ?)
So we are going through and helping with some of the other not-so-typical frozen ingredients that you may find yourself needing in the coming months.
What foods can be frozen?
1. EGGS
Ohhhh eggs. We love them and honestly they are a huge staple in our household. Now we don’t have the luxury of chickens in the city (but I really wish we did). So we’ve prepped our eggs. Did you know you can freeze eggs?! Yes you can! There is however a trick to it so PLEASE read on.
YOU CANNOT – I REPEAT CANNOT FREEZE EGGS IN THEIR SHELLS!Â
You will want to crack them into a silicon mold or large ice cube trays.
How long do eggs last in the freezer?
Up to one year. When you are ready to use, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator and use within 24-hours. It is also worth mentioning that you do not want to make any dish that does not thoroughly cook the frozen eggs. So for example: Our Keto Ice Cream is a no bueno to make with defrosted frozen eggs.
HOWEVER – Our Keto Loaf Bread or 90 Second Keto Bread both are fabulous recipes that can be made with defrosted eggs.
2. MILK / HEAVY CREAM
Yes heavy cream and milk can be frozen. Simply pour your cream or milk into ice cube trays and freeze for individual portions OR if you are going to freeze the entire container be sure to remove a couple tablespoons out of the jug before freezing. It will expand as it freezes.

3. CHEESE
Now cheese luckily has a pretty long shelf-life and should successfully be store in the refrigerator up to a month. BUT if you find yourself concerned or want to prep for over a month cheese CAN be frozen.
Frozen cheese can end up a bit more crumbly in texture if now defrosted correctly. When you defrost leave it tightly wrapped in plastic to retain the moisture. Use defrosted cheese within 2-3 days of defrosting it.
How Long Does Cheese Last in the Freezer? You can freeze the entire bricks of cheese in the freezer up to 6 months.
NOTE: This does include cream cheese. 🙂
4. BERRIES
Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are all wonderful when frozen. They will get softer though so it’s best to make a sugar-free jam or something of that nature with them. But if you are looking for something sweet like we have been. This is a wonderful alternative. 5. VEGETABLES
Our go-to vegetables are bell peppers, spinach, cauliflower and broccoli. All have shorter shelf-lives but all are fantastic for freezing. Add some dethawed spinach to our Italian Wedding Soup OR bell peppers to our Keto Chili.
Also can make some broccoli tots with our frozen broccoli and eggs.
Onion and garlic both are fabulous ingredients to keep on hand as they will last a very long time if kept is a cool, dark and dry area.
It’s rather unknown how long quarantine is going to be so we rather be on the side of caution and make sure we can some vegetables in our diet during all of this.
6. BUTTER
You can 100% freeze butter. This ingredients we actually just found ourselves out of when this all hit. Which is needed in some of our staples meals (like our keto cheese sauce). PLUS – I want to do a bit more baking since we are inside and to help break up the monotony.
Freeze butter by wrapping it tightly in plastic freezer wrap AND inside a freezer bag.
How long does butter last in the freezer? Salted butter will last up to 12 months and unsalted butter more around the 6-7 months mark.
Other ingredients we’ve made sure we have are canned tomatoes, psyllium husk and xantham gum for baking our breads and tortillas.
We also found that the frozen ingredients for our fathead dough pizza turns out some decent results. It’s texture is a bitttttt different but we devoured it. Our barbecue chicken pizza was made just the other night.. It is pizza night on Fridays and we intend to keep that tradition alive. ?
I hope this list helps qualm any fears about losing any progress you may have made over the months or years. We don’t need to resort to rice and beans for our meals. There are plenty of options and recipes to choose from. All the recipes we’ve linked in this article use these basic ingredients so lets tackle this together.
